Summer outing: The Lotz House

Flowers from the yard
What a delightful excursion to a little-known gem in our backyard!
On August 15, we met near downtown Franklin for a tour of the Lotz House, which was built in 1858 and put in the National Historic Register in 1976.

We enjoyed VIP treatment at the impressive Civil War house museum courtesy of Executive Director/CEO J.T. Thompson, who shared the fascinating stories of the German immigrant Lotz family: master carpenter/woodworker Johann Albert, his wife Margaretha, and their children, including Matilda, who found fame in California as a painter and animal portrait artist.  Afterward, we enjoyed a lively lunch next door at the Bunganut Pig pub.

Permission was granted for a pose on the settee
